What is online counseling?
Online counseling, tele-therapy and video therapy are all terms that refer to counseling that takes place in the virtual world. We connect and see each other in my virtual office.
Who benefits from online counseling?
Anyone who wants a greater degree of privacy and the convenience and comfort of meeting from a private place in your home or office or other location.
Online therapy is not recommended for people who need crisis intervention. Concerns such as current or recent suicidal and/or homicidal thoughts or attempts, abusive circumstances, or serious psychiatric conditions are best treated in face-to-face therapy formats.
Is online counseling confidential & safe?
My virtual office uses a HIPAA-compliant secure platform for texting, calls, emails and video-conference sessions. Your privacy is my priority. I use the same secure online platform used by many physicians and therapists.
What do l need?
You need a computer or a smart phone, a decent internet connection and a private space where you can minimize background noise, interruptions, and disruptions.
Why online counseling instead of in-person counseling?
Convenience. Safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Your comfort in your own space. No stress from commuting, traffic, and inclement weather. Greater flexibility of scheduling appointments in the day or evening.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Research says that it is. Many studies have determined that online counseling does not have a significant difference from face to face counseling, particularly in the treatment of anxiety and depression. More importantly, the benefits of both approaches are sustainable even after a year.
